I had quite an unpleasant experience with Marek Dawidowicz and his assistant yesterday. While both men were (for the most part) respectful, the move itself was a disaster of organisation and time management.
I had originally booked a pick up for 4 pm, for only one mover to help me move from London to Stratford-upon-Avon. A day later I emailed ComparetheManandVan.com office, seeing if it would be possible to change my start time to 2 pm. The office said that the time change shouldn't be a problem, and that I should contact the driver (Marek) directly. I did so, and Marek responded in the affirmative and that he would arrive between 2 and 2.30.
On the day of the move Marek called me at 12.15 to ask if a 1 pm pick up would be acceptable. I told him that I unfortunately would not be done packing by then, that I'd need to stick to 2 as we planned. Just as I was heading out the door at 1.30 to run a final errand, Marek and his assistant arrived. I was surprised to see a second mover, as I had only booked one, but I shrugged it off and assumed the move would go quicker this way. As I was showing Marek the things to be moved, he asked me if it would be ok with me if we did a delivery out of his truck on the way to my destination. I asked him how much time that would add to the trip, and he said half an hour. I agreed, surprised that he would ask a paying customer to do this but not wanting to make his job any harder.
I left them to it as I ran out to do this errand, and when I came back (still before 2 pm) they had packed up all my things and looked anxious to leave. I rushed back to my place to pick up my yellow bag that had my purse and my laptop in it, and discovered they had taken it with everything else even though I had not included it in the things that I showed them to pack up. When I asked where the yellow bag was and that I had intended to keep it with me through the trip, they opened the back of the van and said it must be buried somewhere, that they were pretty sure they had packed it, and couldn't I wait until we reached my final destination (2.5 hours away). Seeing no other option, I packed myself into the middle seat of the van and squeezed myself between the two men. This is where things really started to go awry. Marek put his delivery address into his navigation and said "Oh, actually this delivery is going to take an hour. Is that ok?" I told him that I would rather not spend an additional hour in the car. He said, "well you are the one who moved your appointment from 4 pm." I told him that if the time change was not acceptable he could have told me so when I made the original request. He called his office, I assume to try and cancel the delivery, and then returned to the car saying "I have to do this delivery. The lady, for the delivery, she is crazy, she is very rude." Again, seeing no other options, I kept quiet. Our first stop was sitting for 15 minutes in a petrol station. Then, after an hour of driving in heavy central London traffic, Marek receives a phone call:
"Hi, I'm here waiting for someone to pick up a fridge?"
"Yes, I am ten minutes away," Marek replies.
"I'm sorry but I need to leave now, I am not going to be able to wait for you."
"You can't wait ten minutes?"
"No, I need to leave now."
Marek then calls his office, engages in a heated exchange with the person on the other end, and tells me that the delivery has been canceled. He turned to me (of all people) to say "this guy can't even wait 10 minutes?!"
Look, everyone has a bad day. I wanted to be compassionate. I didn't comment on the delivery debacle (I think I even said "that's a shame!") I told him that once we arrived in Stratford I would need to make two stops, one to pick up keys and the other to my new flat. He nodded. Then, after two hours in the hot sun squeezed between these sweaty men, we arrive in Stratford, and I give him the address of where I am meant to pick up keys. He lets out an aggravated sigh. From there I got the keys and we moved all of the things in. Midway through he thrusts my yellow bag at me, saying "see? here is your bag." Again, these aren't bad guys. But it was quite an uncomfortable trip. I hope they are able to improve their communication and attention to the details of a booking.

I am sorry to receive this customer's review and would say that I totally deny her version of events. When leaving drivers to pack up your belongings, it is preferable that you keep any personal items with you to avoid confusion. In addition, although I did ask if the customer would mind travelling to her destination via Central London, to which she agreed. In return for this, once we reached Stratford I agreed to travel to obtain her keys, before travelling to her destination address, for no additional charge.

Absolutely fantastic service. Driver + helper were so quick with the move but really careful with my belongings - including moving a piano. They even put my headboard on my bed when we got to new place. Polite and friendly. Would definitely recommend!

Despite the great reviews and the incredibly competitive quote, I was still a bit worried about entrusting my move to a complete stranger.

However, the reviews were accurate, Marek and his helper were brilliant, worked really really hard and provided an excellent service that the "professional movers" would have been proud of.

Was running late to my destination due to bad traffic. Driver arrived on time but couldn't wait around due to another job. I would of paid extra for the driver to wait with my items but driver had no options but to drop my boxes in front of the house. Luckily there was someone in the house to take the boxes in.
