As the UK county town of Suffolk, Ipswich boasts a population of approximately 180,000. In addition to being a popular destination for permanent British residents, Ipswich also attracts a variety of tourists who make frequent visits to the beautiful historic port and heritage sites. Being home to a multitude of cultural events, nightlife hotspots and a bustling shopping centre, it is not hard to see why Compare the Man and Van has recruited professional service providers within the area.

The History of Ipswich

Ipswich is one of England's oldest towns, with the modern town taking shape in Anglo-Saxon times around the Ipswich dock. Towards 700 AD, settlers from the Netherlands set up the first large-scale potteries in England since Roman times. In about 720 AD a new part of the town was laid out in the Buttermarket area, which is now home to a bustling shopping centre. Ipswich fast became a place of national and international importance. (Parts of the ancient road plan still survive in its modern streets!)

Some famous residents and visitors of Ipswich includes the painter Thomas Gainsborough, Charles Dickens ( who used Ipswich as a setting for scenes in his novel The Pickwick Papers), Enid Blyton (Who trained as a teacher at Ipswich high school), and numerous artists who perform at The Ipswich Arts Festival, including Ed Sheeran.

On 13 March 2007 Ipswich was awarded the cleanest town award.
