Didn't help bring anything upstairs at new property

Driver's response:

"When we reached the destination address there was approximately a 100 meter walk before reaching the flat as the van wouldn't go inside the alleyway. I had to get the items out of the van first before being able to take things upstairs. If I was to take things out of the van, walk 100+ meters and take them up 2 flights of stairs, then the customer's husband would have had to wait for me to come back and take more things out of the van before he would have been able to take them, walk the distance and take the goods upstairs.
Instead, I decided to take as many things out of the van in one go as possible, then walk all the way to the door of the flat with as many items as I could carry and put the items there for the customer's husband to take upstairs. I thought this would save him the hassle of walking all the way to the van - which was the best I could do in the circumstances.
This would have meant that he could go up and down the stairs, taking the things that I put by the door. I have attached a screen capture of where the van was parked and where the door to the flats was. The blue mark is where the van was parked and the red mark is where the door of the flat is.

The van couldn't fit through the alleyway, anything bigger than a hatchback or a coupe would have struggled to fit, let alone a van with a 4m luton box. It was also a hassle because there were cars parked, I would have needed my van to be straight to even attempt entering that alleyway which wasn't possible as cars were parked on the street. There were also bins in the alleyway.
The job clearly needed at least 2 more people to make things easier and quicker. Often customers provide additional help, but on this occasion that didn't happen.

To create the assumption that I didn't even help take anything upstairs is very dishonest. There was no way for a single person to be able to take sofas, fridge, washing machine, cupboards, wardrobe etc alone. We both took those things upstairs by holding to each side. The things I didn't take upstairs were the things that a single person would be capable off, which was things such as bags and boxes no larger than the size of a microwave at most.

The negative review is unfair as I couldn't do all those things whilst emptying a three bedroom house worth of goods from my van, walking 100+ meters and then taking them up 2 flights of stairs. I had to assign the customer's husband a role, and myself a role. I would have been okay with us having the roles switched but he was content with doing the upstairs and downstairs as it was less hassle.
I also didn't have someone staying back to make sure none of the items from the van got stolen. If something was stolen, then I would have been liable and would probably have been accused of stealing! In addition, I had to close the shutter each time I left the van.

The stairs were no ordinary stairs as well, the flat is on top of shop and shop stairs are very steep and twice the length of your ordinary stairs.

The customer should have booked for more people to help with this move as having to walk all the way to the flat door is the reason why I couldn't help with taking all the things upstairs. This could of have been solved if the customer had booked for more help, or had been able to provide additional helpers.

This guy was amazing. I booked it at short notice and they had no problem getting there on time. They had to help me take off two doors and out then back on. Made it so much easier. I highly recommend them.
