Yes driver came at 8am instead of 9am, good! But he was moody about the job because he was given details of "90 small boxes" where my boxes came in all different sizes...i did not mention any adjectives when i ordered on line. Also my friends helped me from second floor to bring its all down. The wanted me to pay extra. The driver brought a man with him so there were just 1 space in the van for myself to travel, where we were initialy offered 2 spaces in the van...so my friend had to take the tube to my new address where we were moving everingthing to. And finaly they wanted me to pay more money at the end and threaten me to not deliver anything. But i persuaded them that we will finish in less than 3 hours (orininaly booked for 5 hours)..and we did so it was a waste of time talking and negotiating while loading..

Steve from House Removals misrepresented the items and content bulk that needed moving to the Driver & helper. Missing from their job-sheet was one wardrobe and 50 boxes and baskets. We only just managed to fit all into the van - the movers had to pack the van very carefully to include above items missing from the Job Sheet - I saw it the job sheet for myself. Steve from House Removals ought to have offered a refund for the inconveniences (6.5 hours late and stress and worry over the size of the move). I tipped the drivers as I felt bad for them - I felt as if Steve from House Removals conned both myself and the Drivers Lejuane and his assistant.
I paid the full quoted amount plus a private tip to Lejuane the driver. In the end, I was moved safely, the driver & his guy were GREAT, but the communications and post-move demand for payment caused me worry and irritation I have not ever encountered before. (veteran mover x 8 times inside Greater London 2002-2016).

We do not know of a Steve from House Removals but are pleased that you rated the driver and his assistant as being "great".
We would state that we do not charge by what is being moved, but by size of van booked, distance, whether you need the driver to help etc. That being so, the onus is clearly on the customer to book the correct size van for their move as only you know what is being moved, although we are always happy to advise on this.

Not happy with the lack of transparency between the relationship between compare the man and van and what are in effect subcontractors

CMV Response: We consider that by virtue of the name 'Compare the Man and Van' it is quite clear from the outset that we are a comparison website and a platform to connect customers to service providers. In addition, this is also made very clear in the pdf attachment '5 Things You Need to Know About Your Move' which is sent to every customer upon booking and also in our Terms & Conditions. With respect, we don't see how more transparent we can be.
